Today I'm featuring my lovely friend and fellow Lewes Mama, Becky, on Make, Do and Push! Becky is the founder and creator of Magnificent Stanley; a fantastic, homegrown company that specialises in the baby market.
I thought Magnificent Stanley would be of interest to all of my lovely readers. So without further ado I give you Becky!
Hi Becky! Before we talk about your business can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi - I'm Becky and I live in lovely Lewes with my husband, our 8 month old boy called Herbie and our cat Stanley. I am a sewing fanatic and always have been. I studied Fashion Knitwear at Central St Martins and loved it.
Wonderful! So you studied textiles post-school - have you always been creative?
Yes, I have always been sewing/knitting/embroidering from a very young age. My mum was a seamstress so I caught the bug from her!
I love that it runs in the family! When did you set up Magnificent Stanley?
It has been growing slowly since 2010. I have added new ranges and been working hard on forming a ‘brand’ more recently since having my baby in January.
I'm sure that keeps you very busy!! What inspired you to set it up?
I toured as a wardrobe mistress with bands for 10 years. I set Magnificent Stanley up as I needed a creative outlet between tours. Then, when I had my baby, my business grew as I made more things for him and his friends.
I love the name of your business - how did you come up with it?
Stanley is my cat and he is Magnificent!
Amazing! What sort of products do you sell?
I sell pretty Liberty print cotton pram strap covers, personalised baby gros, blankets and bibs. These are made to order from a variety of different Liberty prints. I also make dangly soft toys, perfect to chew and tie onto prams or slings.
I love that you use Liberty print fabric - it's so beautiful.
What would you say is your favourite item in the Magnificent Stanley range?
My favourite items are the Pram Strap Covers.
I found it hard to find any that are made of pretty cotton fabrics for our pram. They were all nylon or animal print so I made my own! I also love the personalised baby gros!
I can speak from experience - the babygros are gorgeous, and I have been ogling Herb's pram straps!
So, do you have a particular ethos for running Magnificent Stanley?
I make for others what I would make for my own baby.
And finally, where can we find Magnificent Stanley?
I am setting up my website at the moment, so I'm currently selling via my Facebook page. I also sell at various craft fairs, details are posted on my Facebook page and my twitter account (@magnifistanley).
